Day #18 in the PINK – Using Accent Pieces

DSCN1972We had a warm coat drive at our church.  It was exciting to see all of the coats that were donated.  Since it has been a little chillier than normal it was heartwarming to see the generosity of people sharing with others in need.

Yesterday we talked about the value of starting with “core” pieces to build your wardrobe.  Today it’s all about the next step in creating a working wardrobe.  The use of “accent pieces” will create interest and depth to your core wardrobe.

As you know, I am on day #18 in the PINK.  Learning how to wear color can be a challenge for some of us especially when most people say their favorite color is BLACK.  Wearing the same color for an entire month might present a challenge altogether different.  Unless that is you start with good core pieces.

PINK has become my ACCENT piece for the month.  The jacket that you see here is a soft pink wool boucle jacket.  I have had this jacket in my closet almost 10 years.  It is a classic cut jacket and today it worked.  That and the fact that the trends are a bit more conservative,  it goes with my CORE  brown, gray, black, cream tan, navy.

In order for your wardrobe to work for you, you must have at least 5 tops for every bottom that you own.  So, when you choose accent pieces, think of shirts, blouses, tops, t-shirts, sweaters, etc.  Choose  color that is great for you and feels good on you, flatters your skin tone, and in a fabric that fits your body well.  You may not wear it everyday but you will find that it becomes a valuable resource for you in building smart, working pieces in your wardrobe.
